DECORATIVE & FOLK ART PAINTING
Sherry Cosham-Chandler and “Emily”
(tax free)
“Emily” the Cat and CEO patiently sits beside me as I paint, providing, of course, there is a constant supply of “treats”.
Designs are hand painted on wooden boxes, bowls, wine bottle/glass holders, tin trays, matchboxes, wicker baskets, clay pots, candle holders, canvas, tin watering cans, lamps, lamp shades, sailboats and much more.
Various year round items have a nautical theme with original painted designs of Nova Scotian sailboats, lighthouses and waterfront scenes.
Tin being my favourite is prepared in the “old” lengthy way of removing any rust, cleaning with vinegar and water, protecting with a rust inhibitor, applying 4-5 base coats of paint, heat setting in an oven and/or allowing to “cure” before painting on the design. Some pieces are then antiqued – using a dark oil paint rubbed and worked over the painted design to give it that old antiqued appearance. Drying time for this can take up to weeks depending on the size, weather and amount of antiquing done. A protective finish is then applied and may also have a coat of paste wax.
Christmas, Easter, Fall and Halloween items available in season.
